Call of Duty 5 has recently been confirmed by Activision Blizzard, shortly after the company merger. But there has still been no word on who will develop it. There have been several rumors that Infinity Ward, who developed the latest game in the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty 4, will NOT be developing the next installment, if so, chances are that it will go to Treyarch, who developed Call of Duty 2: Big Red One and Call of Duty 3. If Call of Duty 5 does go to Treyarch chances are that the game will be restricted to consoles only, seeing that Treyarch is traditionally a console-only developer.

According to Gameplayer, Activision has said they plan on releasing a Call of Duty game each year -- basically one developer will certainly not be enough since Infinity Ward generally takes two years to develop each game. (This is what happened with Call of Duty 3 and Treyarch)

The Call of Duty franchise was initially a PC-only game. With the release of Call of Duty 2, PC gamers were outraged only to learn that Infinity Ward had simply ported the console version to the PC. Call of Duty 3, the console exclusive, was developed by Treyarch as well it's predecessor Call of Duty 2: Big Red One for the original xbox and ps2. Call of Duty 4 was developed and released (November 6th, 2007) by Infinity Ward for all platforms.

Digg - Why Call of Duty 5 Might Not Be Coming to PC

Brief History of Call of Duty:
Call of Duty: Infinity Ward (PC)
Call of Duty: United Offensive -- Gray Matter Interactive, now known as Treyarch (PC)
Call of Duty 2: Infinity Ward (PC, Consoles)
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One -- Treyarch (Consoles)
Call of Duty 3: Treyarch (Consoles)
Call of Duty 4: Infinity Ward (PC, consoles)
Call of Duty 5: ???

* This isn't official! (Or at least I hope not!) But I've made this post based off of credible gaming site articles and patterns among previous releases of Call of Duty.

Call of Duty 3: Treyarch (Consoles) was HORRIBLE

Why would activision put a Great! game " COD4! " in the the hands of Treyarch..??
They ruined cod3.. i just dont get it.. cod2 was a outstanding then i bought cod3 and traded it in within a week. O know but we want a new COD on the shelves every christmas.. blablabla just put the same game out, add some maps, change some camo, new weapons . Id pay 80 bucks for infinity ward.. just another dumb choice by Activision.

It's been kinda... out there for a while that there's a tentative plan for Treyarch to develop the "Odd" numbered versions in the series, while Infinity Ward will handle the "even" numbered ones. This allows each developer to theoretically have ~2 years to develop the game, instead of a measly one. Personally, I'm thankful for this approach considering Activision admitted they're releasing a game every year in this franchise.

That would be a shame having it console only. Alot of PC gamers would be disappointed and they would lose out on a lot of sales. Personally I love PC gaming because unlike consoles you can upgrade for newer games 8-) .

I think if COD5 didnt come to the PC might be a good thing aslong as the MOD Tools come out with the next patch and people make some great maps.

I have been a codder since the original COD, and i played it online after Wolfenstein got abit stale (didnt like Enemy Territory) and i played with a clan on UO for ages because there was always some good maps that came out.

As for COD2 i cant name you a custom map that i played that i liked, where as with UO maps i could reel off about 5
