Many people are having an issue when launching the multiplayer portion of Call of Duty 4.

Tips:
Reinstall the game
Update your Drivers

There are some issues running CoD 4 Multiplayer on some onboard sound cards. Users with RealTek(TM) onboard sound cards and Windows(R) Vista will need to use Microsoft Audio Drivers 6.0, which can be found at Microsoft Corporation and/or COD4 Windows Vista Audio Drivers Fix. Users with Sigmatel® onboard sound cards need to install all Windows® Vista updates, and the latest Sigmatel drivers from Dell.com.

If you are running the game from a secondary partition, download the latest BIOS updates from your motherboard manufacturer in addition to following the above instructions.

A fix will be posted here once Activision/Infinity Ward releases more info on this error

thanks for this it works. i was getting pissed it was somthign wrong iwht my pc. but this helped me out soo much

ive done wat u said sniper.t and plugged my mic in. the game loads up fine then i join a game, but then the programs closes and it sais iw3mp.exe error. i got 1 of the highest graphic cards and sound cards but its not working. I dont see why its not working because it was working fine for mounths. WAT DO I DO!!!! plz help

ive done everything and it works for 5 minutes then it sais iw3mp.exe errror. so i dont know wat to do.

WOW, THANK YOU!!! I was trying for 4.5 hours to get it to run and this was the only thing that worked.

I was having trouble with the game crashing back to the desktop during multiplayer. I have an Intel Core2Quad Q6600, nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS, Microsoft high def audio device (Costco computer). I use headphones with a mic plugged into the ports on the front of the computer. I stopped the error by going to - control panel, hardware and sound, sound - and disabled the mic port on the back of the computer. Seems the game only likes one mic port working. Hope this helps, I know how frustrating this error is.
