Many people are having an issue when launching the multiplayer portion of Call of Duty 4.

Tips:
Reinstall the game
Update your Drivers

There are some issues running CoD 4 Multiplayer on some onboard sound cards. Users with RealTek(TM) onboard sound cards and Windows(R) Vista will need to use Microsoft Audio Drivers 6.0, which can be found at Microsoft Corporation and/or COD4 Windows Vista Audio Drivers Fix. Users with Sigmatel® onboard sound cards need to install all Windows® Vista updates, and the latest Sigmatel drivers from Dell.com.

If you are running the game from a secondary partition, download the latest BIOS updates from your motherboard manufacturer in addition to following the above instructions.

A fix will be posted here once Activision/Infinity Ward releases more info on this error

First time here guys. I have had a variety of problems trying to get COD4 to run on my new system for the past three days. I have the DirectX error when trying to load SP and iw3mp.exe has stopped working” when trying to load MP. I even tried uninstalling and reloading Vista to start clean with all of the latest drivers. The only thing I have not tried is plugging the mic in... Any solid resolution to DirectX on Vista?

Default IW3MP.EXE error

ok, ive read about all the posts i can for this error, and im getting it on XP. when everyone else seems to be getting this error with vista. when i open my sound options and turn stereo mix on it defaults to having my mic selected, anyone have any ideas? i renamed the bak file, and that had it working for about a week or so, but now im back to random crashes, which sux cause i really like the game

Default Hardware Upgrade = error

Hmm i had the game running perfectly for several months, then i recently purchased a AMD AthlonXP 3000+ Barton Core, and when i tried reinstalling the game, single player wouldn't launch and multiplayer gave me this error. I had to flash my bios for my chip to work, so it could either be that, or i did use different RAM as well, crucial pc3200, and i also rolled back my video drivers. But those were the only variables so maybe you can use those to fix your problem, but my problem was that in my miles folder, it had both an mssmp3.asi and mssmp3.bak file, so i deleted the bak just in case and changed the asi to bak and it worked fine. Hope this helps.
