Many people are having an issue when launching the multiplayer portion of Call of Duty 4.
Tips:
Reinstall the game
Update your Drivers
There are some issues running CoD 4 Multiplayer on some onboard sound cards. Users with RealTek(TM) onboard sound cards and Windows(R) Vista will need to use Microsoft Audio Drivers 6.0, which can be found at Microsoft Corporation and/or COD4 Windows Vista Audio Drivers Fix. Users with Sigmatel® onboard sound cards need to install all Windows® Vista updates, and the latest Sigmatel drivers from Dell.com.
If you are running the game from a secondary partition, download the latest BIOS updates from your motherboard manufacturer in addition to following the above instructions.
A fix will be posted here once Activision/Infinity Ward releases more info on this error
this is bull. Sound was fine now I update my vid drivers the the nvideo beta and now I get this stupid error. This PC is gonna get the 12 gauge treatment and wtf didnt they make a mac version of this game. This is total bull. I got my finger on the nuke the world button
My sound card has been fully updated along with my video card. A lot of people have been saying to enable Stereo mix in the recording tab, but it says I have anything in that list. Do I need a microphone to play? Also I seem to have High Definition Audio Device instead of Realtek and Sigmatel. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem with my hardware?
P.S - I have a Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Xtreme Audio notebook edition sound card and the driver installed but the card isn't with me. Could this be the problem?
When I first run either Single Player or Multiplayer, I get a Windows Error display box and at the top it says, "Call of Duty 4 Mutliplayer: iw3mp.exe - Entry Point Not Found". In the box it says, "The procedure entry point _RIB_provider_library_handle@0 could not be located in the dynamic link library mss32.dll.
What can I do to get this to work? I've tried the whole, "plug your headphones in the jacks and it works fine". It doesn't work fine.
Just to post an update on my previous situation. I plugged in the sound card I had installed, read earlier post for why I didn't have it plugged in, and the multiplayer works perfectly.
Hey whats up guys my first post on this board, sorry its a problem ,Ugh.I am getting that iw3mp.exe error as well.I tryed everything that you guys used to try and fix it such as turning on the stereo mixing, updating my realtek onboard sound with the microsoft link provided in a post, plugged in a mic to my port, reinstalled my game...and in short nothing works, same error,I was able to see some splash screen 1 time in safe mode but that only happend once and that was that...any other suggestions?also the directions to "sound tools " in control panel,is that windows vista,no operating system was specified.I am using windows xp pro,i found the stereo mixing setting but as i said no good all around.this really sucks activision should be all over this problem lots of people are getting this error, heck maybe even storing the update on there own server would be nice..just some specs i am running a HIS 2600 pro turbo with omega modded ati drivers, latest via chipset realease, and as i said the update from the microsoft website "6.0" for the realtek chipset..thank you in advance...
heres an update as to what else i tryed....Disabled onboard video, purchase a creative xfi extreme audio, installed card downloaded latest drivers, reinstalled the game,an wouldnt you know it.....same dam error,so much for the onboard sound chip theory...Also i tryed the game on my other gaming box running a 7800gsoc video card latest forcware drivers with a sound blaster audigy gamer card...lol ,,same freekn error....I emailed acvtivison on this matter and i just about give up,its a dam shame becasue i bought all thier stuff and got dusted off like a man waving a bad check...wtf
Ok,one last shot...I exchanged out the sound card and upgraded to the creative extreme gamer, set it up for game mode, disabled onboard sound in bios\removed any and all drivers from old sound chipset, cleaned registry.setup the creative extreme gamer\plugged in mic, reinstalled game apllied 1.4 patch.LOL ,so the game now started went to join a game, played under a min, then sound stuttered over and over again, screen droppeed to taskbar and gave...you guessed it the Iw3mp.exe error...So just to recap what i have done.1.tryed to update the onboard sound drivers and set all advised setting from activision.com support page. That did not work.Went to store purchased creative xfi extreme disabled onboard sound removed drivers installed drivers for creative card, reinstalled game applyed patch reboot...same error.OK,went back to the store exchanged the craetive extreme xfi card for the extreme gamer card set it up as listed above.Game worked for maybe a min, then got a stuttering sound on audio playback ,game froze and popped up the Iw3mp.exe error....are you guys laughing yet???this is pretty dam stupid...what do they expect one to do?go buy a new box ?with all the latest chipset to run this game....i would say what i think of activision but i know theres young kids on here so i wont....
