PC server admin guide for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
***IN PROGRESS***

I will be adding to this in the coming days, but to get you guys started, here's the basics. If you have questions or would like something in particular, please speak up and I'll see what I can do.

Sample Server Configuration can be found: Here

Required Ports
-----
UDP 20800
UDP 20810
UDP 28960

Hardware + Bandwidth Requirements
---------------------------------

Bandwidth and server resource usage should be lower than that of COD2 in most situations, but it is not guaranteed. There are some situations where bandwidth usage may spike, and the server will get hit harder than usual. Generally, if you're capable of hosting a COD2 dedicated server you should be just fine for COD4.

starting a dedicated server
----------------------------
LAN server
] iw3mp.exe +set dedicated 1

Internet server
] iw3mp.exe +set dedicated 2

Modded server
] iw3mp.exe +set dedicated [1,2] +set fs_game "mods/<modname>"

start map
] map <mapname>

example usage:
] iw3mp.exe +set dedicated 2 +exec my_server.cfg +map mp_crash

my_server.cfg contains customized settings which are detailed below.
syntax: set <dvar> <value>

server commands
---------------
] killserver
] quit
] map_restart
] say "my message"
] tell [clientnum] "my message to you"

server settings

<gametype> is one of:

scr_team_fftype [0-3] is Friendly Fire right? If so maybe just Enabled would be the best choice over Shared or Reflect no matter how funny it is to see someone shoot a team mate when they are at low health and then die it's not so funny when you really didn't mean too or your team mate was just not being a very smart guy. :P

Oh and as for disabled; I think having the FF Enabled makes the game play a little more strategic with the whole bullets don't go through team mates thing. :D

I think yes, you need to upload it. Like all CoD's releases. Linux server will be available, thats for certain. But when... nobody knows.

Anyone from here with the DVD? Is there any chance to be included on the DVD?

Hi all... I'm looking for the following Items on configuring a server.

1. I'd like to make the map and gametype random on our server. I've seen it on some servers... just don't know how to make it happen in my config file.

2. Ok... figured out how to chnage gametype in the console but when the map rotates it always goes back to WAR mode :(

Thanks for all your help.
