This s just my 2 cents, and take it as an opinion, and you know what they say about opinions?
Since the news broke that TreyArch will be composing COD5, there has been a lot of undue flack sent TreyArch's way that I have found on the web. There has also been clues hinting pretty convincingly toward COD5 being another WW2 shooter, which again seems to have brought even more flames TreyArchs way.
I find it almost comical, but mostly insulting to the developers of COD3, of how short a fuse people have, but even shorter a memory. Most people claim game play will not be the same. You are right, it wont. In COD3, a head shot was a head shot, not like COD4. In COD3 they did not have the Kill-Cam, where you find out who actually put the last nail in your coffin. So all those times you sat there and thought "there was no way that guy just killed me", you never really knew who actually did put you down. Whereas in COD4, you have these enhancements so you know. Something to keep in mind when saying that COD3 had it's fair share of "targeting" issues.
Then people say the graphics wont be as good. I truly believe COD4 is a piece of art. It is truly beautiful! But I also think that to say COD5 wont be as aesthetically pleasing is an unfair and unjust judgment. Keep in mind, COD3 came out shortly after the introduction of the 360. Since that time, many new technologies and engine enhancements have been released. I think we need to wait and see before we pull the trigger on that criticism.
I believe both games were great for their point in time. But as games and technologies grow, so does the gaming enhancements. Being an older guy (38) I can relate to playing PONG on an ATARI 2600 which cost $400 and being amazed with it. The things we are seeing today in home console gaming systems are beyond imagination. I would imagine with a Publisher like Activision, they are going to make sure all the bells and whistles are in game play for COD5. I would almost bet on it.
This is just my take on things, and your mileage may vary. I just see a lot of people making judgment calls and flaming TreyArch before they are given an honest chance. I am not pointing the finger, nor am I trying to spark a debate. I am just trying to make people think before they go on a rant about how poor something is or will be without all the facts and before they even see it.
Thanks.
