yes, quads always will. but just about any computer geek will tell you that big of a cache will not help in gameing. but as far as gameing goes today, dual core is still the way to go, they got one of these things to 4.7GHz on air cooling, you try that with a Q6xxx, if it got there, ( which it can't ) it would melt. and its 45nm so its cooler, and SSE 4 and games later on, SSE 4 show about a 30-40% jump in programs that use it. 8-) you just can't beat a E6750 OC'ed, untill now.

Well I don't think people usually get processors specifically for gaming. I think people focus more on video cards for that. Of course a pentium 3 wouldn't go good with an 8800GT.. but most modern/recent processors will do fine for gaming. I'm into gaming but its not all I do.. quad core gives you more power for stuff other than gaming.

On a side note.. is the 8000 series the desktop version of the harpertowns? I've heard they're (harpertowns) are beasts

a lot more people then you think do buy processors specifically for gaming, thats why they made the extreme's. everyone i know that has built a computer has got a processor specifically for gaming, besides my buddy he got a Q6600. i have seen many AMD's and some lower end intel's bottleneck on just a 8800 GTS 320, all i am trying to say is, if your gameing spend a little more money and get a good CPU. 8-) as far as the 8xxx's being a version of the harpertowns goes, from what i have been told, yes there are, but i do not know if this is true.

the QX9xxx's are already here, the QX9770 has a price of about $1200-$1300 USD. the Q9xxx's should be here soon. the Q9450 is going to be a bit over $300 USD. here are some links.

I have an E6850, it runs about 80-90% CPU load while playing cod4, pushing 2 8800 ultras, the E8400 is cheaper than the price I paid and has a bigger cache. Sounds like the E8400 is the way to go now.

i want AMD to come out with another good processor before intel starts becoming gay and putting out crappy products because they have no competition (they havent done it so far so i hope it stays that way)
