Macs are horrible for gaming.

If you want a good gaming-ready PC check out the Dell XPS or the Gateway FX Series. I believe HP also has a model designed specifically for gaming

Find a friend and get them to build you a computer. I built my gaming rig 3 years ago. I recently compared it's stats with companies like dell. To build my computer through dell you're looking to drop $2800. This includes everything but a monitor. This computer has a 1 year warranty and is statistically equivalent to my computer except my computer has a better dvd/cd drive and a better CPU. When I built my computer I spent $1000. It has everything that Dell has except rather than a 1 year warranty all of my parts have a 3 year warranty. Only thing the dell beats me with is the Video card. They give you the option to put a GeForce 8800 in for an extra $250ish. I could get one for $150 now, just choose not too. So as I said. If possible, find someone that could build on for you. You'll spend a lot less and you can cheaply upgrade at anytime. If you must buy a computer, check out ACER. They are a little less expensive but work well.

Go to a private computer store or a local computer show if you have them in your area and tell them what you want. Tell them you want a gaming computer and equip it with all the top of the line stuff. Motherboard, ram, video, sound, cd, dvd, mouse, keyboard, case, and large screen moniter if you don't already have one. I never buy off the shelf or from Dell or Gateway.

If you have a friend that knows how to build computer, go with him. You can save alot of money and have a top of the line computer that will not age for a while. That's what i did. I spent about $1100 and it's easily worth $2200.

I agree with everyone else. There are plenty of places where you can buy PC components wholesale for a much better price than what name brand companies like HP, Dell, or Gateway will charge you for them in one of their rigs. There are sites on the internet that give you step by step instructions on how to build a computer.

In general you will need:
-Tower
-Motherboard
-Processor
-Heatsink
-Powersupply
-Video Card
-Memory
-Hard Drive
-Operating System
-Cables (IDE etc...)

And the other junk like a keyboard, a monitor, a mouse, and whatever other miscellaneous accessories that you want to use.

Really computers aren't as complicated as people make them out to be. I taught myself everything and it wasn't all that hard to figure out. Most people open up a tower and see all the cables and circuitry and it boggles their mind. It's so much easier than it actually looks. You just need to make sure that your motherboard is compatible with all of the other hardware (your processor, memory, etc...) and that your operating system supports everything also. I don't think there are many problems getting things to work with XP but I have heard of issues with Vista.
