My fellow Pirates and I (6 of us) Searched for a game and let out one big sigh when wetwork with no option to "skip" popped up. So, we get in the game and i run forward Noob tube in hand as ussual, As I Turned to face my team....... NO-ONE ! They were ALL sniping in teh bridge leaving me on the floor alone. The game was an utter disaster until a few of those guys switched to a different class and we scraped a win..... just.
Example 2:
Downpour: We started at the bottom of teh hill, and i took up a sniper position inside the red skip with the washing machine and bucket in it. I start hitting guys coming through and round teh house and work my way to an airstrike and 6 kills. As i opened my airstrike GPS screen i was horrified to see that MY ENTIRE TEAM had Ninja'd up to the enemy spawn and i was utterly sorounded. BANG ! i was killed immediately. So i spawn at the other side, hit two enemies with my airstrike and mount the HMG for another 3 kills. Airstrike time. Again as i opened my screen the EXACT same thing happened, even though i asked my team to pick a spawn and hold it. So i missed another chopper. This continued for the entire game with me getting 3 airstrikes and not one chopper. I won the game by miles and the rest of my team ranged from OK-ish, to crap.
So, heres my question:
Do you think the teams balance and range of playstyles is an important factor in winning games ?
I now think its THE most important factor withy the exception of player ability. And its extremely irritating when the whole team thinks they are bloody Chuck norris. Especially when they aint doing so well and a select few (who's game they'r cocking up) are carrying the whole team so they can have a laugh.
Now, when i start games teh first thing i do is watch everyone else as they pick their classes and try to fill in any gaps. For me a team should always have:
A: 1x or 2x Heavy Gunner: A guy with an LMG, and RPG's Should provide cover fire, suppresive fire and demolitions.
B: 1x or 2x Sniper: Speaks for itself. Should find decent spots and try for airstrikes, should also cover team and identify enemy locations
C: 3x or 4x Soldier: Assault rifles, grenades and should move in a controlled organised front covering eachother whilst the snipers and supporting fire covers them.
D: 1x or 2x Special ops: UAV Jammin Silencer using Chuck Norris Ninja's. Should flank the enemy and try to screw up their battle plan through stealthy tactics. Should carry explosives aswell. Big balls required.
Obviously this team plan can be altered for different maps. For example on Vacant and Showdown snipers arnt necessary, whilst more LMG guys is handy, and on overgrown everyone can snipe with relative team safety without the need for as many soldiers.
However i definately think a team should compliment eachother and cover as many roles as possible. Personally i stick to A, and B. I prefer fire support and sniping roles.
Any comments ?
Cheers guys. (Ohh, and Gals)

95% of COD4 players play Soft-core. If your one of the 5% who need the realism and play HC only, put this in your sig.

thats why its nice to have a good clan to stick with. after a while you learn their tactics and styles. at least you didn't drop the air strike on your team
I did the third time mate, luckily only one died. But if im honest i did it on purpose to teach em a lesson ! managed to get an enemy kill with it aswell though. the ironic thing is, the only team-mate i hit with the airstrike was doing OK and holding back a bit.
I felt bad.

I use all: a, b, c, d. Unfortunately, when playing with people you don't know it's hard to have them listen to your advices and follow what you tell them. Playing with friends and balancing the team out with different classes is a whole lot easier. But I do agree. A team should have balanced classes. A team of all snipers or all ninjas would likely crumble against experienced players.
its a good point, if your playing with a premade friends setup its good to have a mix of classes,
1 sniper to cover as big an area as possible and provided enemy movement intel back to your squad.
Two smaller teams that work together to capture objectives and cover each others back.
I would go into lots of detail but dont think I can go to much into our tactics
so just have a nice diverse setup that can be assault teams defense, and sniper/intel cover

Wow, I wonder what a team of all snipers would do on wetworks. I wonder what a team of all snipers would look like on any level (except creek, ive seen that). It would be odd. Ive played with all stealth players. It actually worked out well, because I went stealth with em. I guess its how you're team decides to play.
