Default cod4 ps3 boosting reception.Help

Hi all

I have a ps3 and I have never had more than one bar connection, it is always red. Does it make a difference in game play?
My ps3 is wireless. My modem has a wireless antena and the ps3 picks up the signal. The ps3 is about 10 meters away from the modem. I am with telstra bigpond and I think the speed is 1.5 mbps. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?

Thanks for your time.

Yes it makes a HUGE difference. By having a good connection you have better hit detection, your bullets travel faster, you can see your opponent a split second sooner and you get no lag.

It all depends on where the people live that you are playing against, if they're in the same country as you/a surrounding country you'll get a great connection (3 green bars or so).

My best advice for you is, get rid of your wireless connection and go for hardwired, never stay in games that stay at 1-red bar (give it about 20-seconds to increase), and to add some people to play against that live near you (you'll both benefit from inviting each other into games).
That's why I said I'd add you when you joined, since you are from Australia - when I'm playing Aussies I get at least a yellow bar connection.

Even if an American with the best connection joined a room full of Australians, his connection would be 1-red bar. However, chuck one or two Americans in that same room and his connection will increase dramatically.

I hope that made sense.

Sweet. Also, COD4 relies on your upload speed. Your download speed basically doesn't come into the equation at all. Another factor is your ping (the time it takes for the signal to reach the server and 'ping' back). The best way to check out your speed/ping is to go to speedtest.net. It'll tell you everything you need to know. It also wouldn't hurt to forward the ports on your PS3. There's so many things you can do but try doing one at a time and seeing what changes it makes.

Oh and I haven't added you yet, was meant to do it yesterday. I'll do it in a few minutes.

Hi

What do you mean by forwarding my ports on the ps3?

My speedtest results are as follows:
108 ms ping
1350 kbps download
178 kbps upload.

is that good?

Thanks

Yeah those are good results. Put it this way, my upload speed is 60kbps even though I'm on a 128k max plan...so you're doing alot better than me. My download speed is about the same as yours though, same with my ping. A ping under 100 is ideal but that'll be fine, anything over 150 and you'll start having problems.

Port Forwarding simply tells the router which computer on the local area network to send the data to. Basically you set the IP addresses you want the router to 'transmit' info back and forward to instead of letting it choose it for you (as it changes every time). This way you get the best connection. You can do port forwarding on both your PS3 and your router.
There are tonnes of guides/info on the net that will come in helpful, just chuck it into Google.

PS. I added you before.

Best way is to get fiberline connection.
In Aus or US i think its cheap but it makes alot of difference.
It allows the connection to run faster and its still the best in the world.

Yeah fibre optic cabling is what everyone needs but unfortunately 70% of regions in Australia and New Zealand are stuck in the dark ages with ancient copper cabling which makes it laggy as hell. It would cost millions and millions for the government to upgrade the whole grid. Here in NZ, we've been told they'll be installing fibre optic cabling in 2012....still a long way to go yet. Not too sure on Australia's situation though.

Yeah, just add a whole lot of Aussies/Kiwis to your friends list and click 'Invite Friends' when you are in the lobby before a match starts (you can also do this in-game if the match isn't full of people). Try Port Forwarding. Ever since the Double XP weekend my PS3 has been picking up 50% more NZers/Australians. If you're ever online when I'm with a bunch of locals I'll give you an invite.
