idude and Tigerlors:

Hi, my name's Cody, and I'm working with the Windows Gaming Outreach Team. After seeing several online threads where users were experiencing similar problems to yours, it seems most likely that your issues are being caused by issues with your graphics cards and/or DirectX. Here's a great link that has several options for you to fix your issues: SLI Zone Forums > Call of Duty4: won't even start I hope you find something useful there! Let me know if I can help in any other way.

Thanks,

Cody

Tigerlors:

Glad you got it fixed! So let's talk about your new problem: I wasn't quite clear on what the issue is. Is the problem that your PC telling you that you need to insert the disc in order to play single player even though your game disc is already in the drive?

Thanks,

Cody

I have the same problem as the OP.

Tried the things suggested here "SLI Zone Forums > Call of Duty4: won't even start" as CodyG suggested, but to no avail.

Im unsure as how to proceed and any suggestions / tips would be most welcome.

If you've got a legal copy of COD4, I'd recommend contacting the game manufacturer's technical support page, as from what I've read, this seems like a fairly common issue that they've dealt with, and they should be able to help you far more effectively than I can! Good luck!

Thanks,

Cody

Ok.....I just started getting the same error too now. And its weird, because I didn't install or change anything, it just started happening all of a sudden.

Yes, I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything conceivably possible dealing with the issue. WTF IS THE PROBLEM!? :'(

EDIT: The only fix I've seen is the "Support DXT5 Textures" option available for ATI card users only....where could I find that option for an Nvidia card? I have a 9800GT.
