how do i save xp gained? before loosing connection

The game is supossed to save automaticly, but when you say ''start again'' do you mean from the first level 0xp or from your last game? Connection loss is a big problem but you can't do anything to counter it(well,no ways that i know about).

Your XP gets saved on an online server, you can't 'save' it. Are you using wired broadband or wireless?

using wired, i'm at level 9 play a few games get to level 10 play more games loose connection, go back to "find a game" (still showing level 10) then "not able to join game" message keeps coming up. I then have to sign out then back in to play again starting back at level 9 all my progress lost

Sadly, it's the same as when you leave a match before it ends, anything you earned during the match untill you loose connection or leave is cancelled.

Good thing about PC, there you can loose connection or leave without loosing XP.

Strange taht you loose connection on a wired XBox, I have my PS3 linked wireless, and I do get them from time to time, the con lost. But with a wire? i don't see where it would loose connection?
