First of all, I hope that i've posted this under the right topic.
Ok so i've been searching for days for ways to play custom maps without using a mod. I'm a complete newbie to the game so i was pretty lost. After many hours of searching however, i had gained nothing. So i decided to screw around with some game files. It worked.
What you need :
1. A computer.

2. WinRAR or similar.
3. Call of Duty 4.
So i found that in most posts about the maps issues the common direction was to copy the .iwd file of each map into the current mod folder. This did not help me as i did not want to use any mods. I noticed that .iwd files were really archives that could be opened in WinRAR. So i searched through the games "stock" .iwd files and found some interesting file names in the archive called "iw_02.iwd" which looked like map resources. So, cutting this story short, here's the steps i devised:
1. Backup the original "iw_02.iwd" file found in "[Call Of Duty Directory]/main/"
as well as your player folder (just in case).
2. Open the .iwd file that came with your custom map using WinRAR and extract all the files it contains.
3. Open the "iw_02.iwd" file in WinRAR, right-click and select "Add files to archive".
4. Browse to the files extracted in Step 2 and select them. They will be added to the archive.
5. Copy the other two files of the custom map with the extension ".ff" to the folder "[Call Of Duty Directory]/zone/english/".
And there you have it. To load the maps, simply type "map {mapname}" into the console after you have started a server.
Please comment on this thread as it is my first one ever and I would like to know if it helped at all.
Thanks
Cam
