Hey everyone, my name's Daniel and I'm new here. This is my problem:

I'm playing with latest patch installed. Game was working perfectly, then one day it started crashing every time I choose "Join game" in the main multiplayer menu. I don't get any message, game just vanishes and I get the winXP error report.

Now for my 2nd and linked question . If there's no known solution to this issue, I'd like to try and reinstall CoD4. How do I make sure my achievements won't be lost when I do so?

UPDATE: just reinstalled, the problem persists. still have my rank and achievements, but no use for them when the game doesn't work

Just had the same problem myself.

Delete the "config_mp.cfg" file in your profile folder. You won't lose your single- or multiplayer game progress by doing so. Open COD 4; the game creates a new file and you will have to set your graphics and controls again, but for me it worked.
