Default DirectX Error

"DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error.

Check the readme for possible solutions."

I receive this error every time I try to change a graphics setting that makes me hit the button "apply".

Every time I restart CoD4:MP, it says it's recommended for me to start in safe mode, which I did once. Ever since then, I've been stuck on 640x480 resolution, 0 anti aliasing etc.

Help?

Also, If you are going to say get it for console, consider this, does it really solve my problem? No, it avoids it and I just move on to something else.

This is for PC, in case you can't figure out what a PC error would look like.

The DirectX error started yesterday.

I would try to update the graphics driver and DirectX (9.0c or 10, depends on your operating system/graphics card).

I'm not 100% sure on whats going on but it could be some corrupted files what you could do is to install the latest DirectX Redist and then also install your current drivers for either ATI Drivers or Nvidia Drivers and then check back with us here also you could try to uninstall the old drivers first then install if just updating does not work (there are some driver cleaner applications out there I don't remember where sorry).

I have the most recent driver for my gfx card and have the most up-to-date DirectX (9.0C) but will try to get older drivers for my gfx card tomorrow.
