Got COD4 for the PC for xmas from a little guy called santa.... i have been playing SP and have now ventured onto MP...
A couple of us from work have now got the game and wanted to setup a dedicated password protected server that we can log onto and play amongst ourselves.... I had a go at creating a server last night but other chaps couldn't access/find it on the server list.... Can anyone help???
I'm sure i'm not doing something right, but haven't a clue what!!!
Is there an easy set up guide? Have done a quick search of the boards to no avail....

If you are behind a Router you need to port forward UDP ports 20800, 20810, 28960 and open them up in any of your software Firewalls.
We done this on our PC's and it worked fine, connect using /connect IP Address in the console
Make sure you dont give your address as 192.168.x.x as this is your internal IP Address
We done this for a while, then we bought a 10 Slot server from Rackage for £96 (per year) between 3 of us, for less than £3 per month per person with Team Speak it was a good deal
Thanks for the reply...... was just looking to start one on my home pc....
I'll give it a go.... (Tremble!).. I am using an SMC router so i will open up the suggested ports.... If i do that will it then be listed on the server list??
You will need to set up a listen server (easiest to setup) Just a couple of clicks on the multiplayer screen.
When we done ours, sometimes it appeared in the list othertimes it didnt, but using the /connect IPAddress worked everytime aslong as you put the UDP Forwarders to your inside IP Address.
Easiest way to get external IP is in your router, or a quick visit to somewhere like [url=http://www.speedtest.net:40165]Speedtest.net[/url:40165] will display it for you (bottom left of search interface). Remember that unless you have a fixed IP Address (most dont) your IP Address will change every so often (4 days, possibly more or less depends on ISP, Router etc)
Getting your internal IP Address, in Windows go Start => Run => cmd (enter)
Then just type ipconfig and it will display it for you.
Hope you can get it working first time, 2 guys from work tried it for 2 hours and couldnt get it working, i come on the next day and was up in under 3 mins (his Homeplugs gave him grief)
thanks again..... i'm a bit of a dribbler when it comes to pc's, but i'll give it a go..... If you could keep online all night just in case i have probs that'd be great...... :p haha
