Do you have to buy another licensed copy of the game to run a dedicated server with it? Any help would be appreciated!

no you dont need any license to run a server, you can even run the server and multiplayer on 1 pc if you like.

As Dutchy said, you don't need a 2nd license. Most of the server that you play on are most likely running Linux, which is running a "hacked" version of the game to start with.

I appreciate the info. I was thinking of running it on a linux box too. Any idea what the system requirements are for the server? Same as the game? I would think they are lower because the graphics aren't there, it's just a console right?

Setting up a PC dedicated version is easy copy the entire folder of your pc put it onto another pc, create a server.cfg, create a shortcut and add an extra few bits after the target in the properties of the shortcut.

I run mine from time to time on my old 1.6ghz Centrino Laptop with a 1gb of RAM and it works fine on 12 slots without lag, any above that and my upload speed cant take it.

Linux i dont know about, but i am sure a 2ghz CPU should cope fine, mine idle's around 10% CPU Usage and RAM of 256mb so i shouldnt need a beefy PC to run

if i copy the whole cod4 folder to a diff pc to run the server, does it still need the minimum specs to run the server? I got a second pc here, but only lacks the graphicscard(nvidia fx5200 i thinkis in there). Now i run both from the main pc what is a bit of hassle if i want to swap maps or gametypes(or even to kick me brother for fun)
