Default A few questions

This is probably a stupid question but....
I work for an network intagration company and my boss has given me the go a head to run some game servers on a few of our servers for testing purposes (ya right lol). My question is, do I need to purchase an additional game to run a dedicated server or can I just run the server from the disc I use at home to play the game with, or will there be serial number issues doing that?
Also can anyone give me the recommend server specs for running between a 34 to 42 man server. We have a T1 here and the server will be running on that, I have looked around quite a bit on the web for this info but haven't found anything useful.

The average server is probably run on
# Xeon Dual Core 2.8 GHz
# 2000MB RAM

But you can get away with running it with 1 Gig if you don't overload the box, and you have a good processor running w/ it as well (since cod4 in a CPU heavy game) and since you have a good T1 connection the ping will be pretty decent Nation wide ( if your centrally located)

and you will be able to use the same disc that you use at home as you do w/ your servers, you will be able to use them with all of your servers.

But if you want a great server i wouldn't mind playing on this

# Dual Intel QUAD CORE 1.86GHZ
# 4000MB RAM

LoL ( ha in 2 years this will probably be so weak of a machine )

I've heard the oppsite, I've heard that a COD 4 server has a fairly light work load on the CPU but does hit the RAM pretty heavy. This info I was given is incorrect?

Here are the specs so far for our test server

AMD 64bit 3200 CPU (I'd like to throw a dual core in it but it's almost impossible to find a dual core 939 chip these days)
2 gig's PC3200 ram
40 gig Hardrive
Asus A8N-SLI Delux Mobo
T1 backbone

The server we rent has online stats, it seems to use all of the 250mb allocated to us and rarely dips below but CPU time barely reaches 10% utilisation and this is a 16 slot server with nearly 16 people using it at peak times.

COD4 uses a good amount of RAM and very little CPU. That machine would be good if you wanted to run 2-3 "largish" servers

We plan on running two (32 - 42 player slot) public servers for COD 4 off this box and maybe a small private Battlefield 1942 server just for messing around on. But like I said, this server is purely for testing purposes so that we can get a grip on bandwidth useage and ect off of our network. The plan is on the table for the company to get into doing game hosting in the somewhat near future, so with this server we are just trying to get our feet wet a bit.
