Im hoping you can help me.

Ive been trying to set up a server for COD 4 this past couple of days without succcess as yet but I have made some progress.

Anyway, Ive been working through a noobie guide to setting up a dedicated server. I did try a listen server initially but couldnt find much info on how other players were supposed to join. So I gave up on this and am focusing on a dedicated server as there seems to be much more advice and help for these types .

So. My problem is this.

When doing a Port Forward Port Check using an application of the same name it finds all my UDP ports fine and states their OPEN but the one TCP/IP port is reported as being CLOSED. Ive gone through the Router setup and checked my services and firewall rules as per the portforward instructions and they have been compleated using the same method as the UDP ports were but for some reason my TCP/IP port is still closed.

Could anyone point me in the right direction regarding this. Im a bit stuck atm.

Im guessing its because of this that my server isnt apearing on the Master Server List and only on my Local Server List. ?

I believe you are using the port forwarding tool? If this is the case and you get the message that port 28960 is unreachable, 1 of 2 things is wrong:

1. You don't have your router set to port forward TCP port 28960. Please verify these settings on your router and make sure you reboot your router after changing the settings.

2. The firewall on the local machine you're setting up as a server is blocking this port. Turn off the firewall and see if the port is reachable then.

Let us know how you make out.

Well for whatever reason both my TCP/IP and UDP ports for 28960 are now showing up as open . No Idea what I did to get this to work however. It might be that I Disabled Port Scan and DOS Protection in my Netgear router settings webpage.!! This is called something else for all other routers though so Don't know how much help this will be to others :/ Why can't the game makers make it EASY for consumers to play a game with their friends. I doubt many could figure out how to set up a server when problems are encountered.

Good questions. I wish I had answers for you on ease of configuration. I just recently figured out how to do auto text on a server and believe me, that wasn't easy either. I was thinking of writing up a guide on that as well.

I tried to make my Noob's guide as easy to understand as possible. Hopefully it helps a few folks out. Glad to hear you got your server running.

Umm my server is still not running If i Make a new Server from within COD4 I can then /connect to it as can any friends that know my IP. Also for whatever reason people have been able to join it. Only one night however, me and a friend had connected to it and then two others joined who said it could be found in the Master Games List. :/ I thought this didnt happen for listen servers ! However my Dedicated server is still not showing up on the Master Servers List , but im working on it.

Don't launch a dedicated server from in game. Modify the shortcut on your desktop to specify a dedicated server & launch it that way. Make sure the port forwarding tool is showing as open as well. You should be all set if you do both.

How do you open the ports when the Port Checker says that it ISNT open.

Dont know if this will help but if i check my ports with the game switched off they report closed so you have to have the game running to do the port check :-D
