To start, you need to understand that I'm a Free For All nut. I don't really play any of the other games. I've tried Team Deathmatch, SnD, etc... and I almost always get my butt handed to me (I'm man enough to admit it lol).
I generally clean house in FFA (and there's some crafty dudes), but in team games it's "two steps DEAD, respawn, two steps DEAD (well, maybe not that bad, but sometimes it seems that way lol). Point is, ussually my deaths exceed my kills.
Now, I know it's a different strategy, you can't just run around all Rambo like you do in FFA and leave your team mates and try to be the hero and stuff like that. But no matter what I do, the other team always gets the drop on me. I may see someone and in that fraction of a second I'm shooting them, but they're already shooting me and I'm dead. Or if I do get them, there's almost always one of their team mates around who cap me off just after I cap them off.
I could go on and on with different examples, but what I'm wondering is... what am I missing? I see people on there get ratios like 24-3, so it's gotta be something I'm doing wrong.
Give me your thoughts

I don't know what to tell you. Just keep playing and you'll get better. I am actually a complete opposite. I do well in TDM, ground war, SnD, and Domination. I used to be awful in SnD, but I am getting better every game. But I find FFA really hard. It's like in FFA, I don't know where to go.

I find extreme conditioning to be the most helpful perk, usually with a silenced SMG and stopping power on close maps. Its hard to explain, but you have to attack from the best offensive angle. Don't hang around 2-3 of your team mates, they're just asking for frags.
Larger maps go with the the assault or sniper and deep impact (if its a map where people are behind walls). I try to avoid the middle of the map unless the UAV shows you're safe, because its hard to watch 3 different directions. A lot of times I travel through the maps, not looking at my player but at the UAV itself. (praying there isn't a jammer lurking around)
Maybe try different guns on different maps, some end up fitting your style on maps better than you thought.
How is it that you're a FFA nut, and I haven't bumped into you?
Odd, I don't recall seeing you either.

I play both often but it depends on your team. If they rush and switch spawn points alot im usually screwed because im holed up sniping and then i am easy pickings, but if they stay back i can end up 22-3 or sometimes when i rush i get the drop on people i played a domination once and went 37-2 it was amazing they never could find me (UAV jammer)
I used to be a FFA nut in COD4. I would win avg. 25-5. No longer. Now that I have a good group a people going. WAR is all I play. Lots of kills, points and if your team is coordinated liek ours is you are hard to beat. Helps to have some real killers on your team with high KDR ratios. Some flank, a few capture (rifle grenade clears flag real quick) then pounce on it while team flanks enemy. Works like a charm and yet to lose a match with these buddies.
For FFA The best perks are Stopping power, Extreme cond, and DEAD silence with you TV volume way up. The spawning in COD WAW suck for FFA.
