I've been playing a long time and consider myself average.

I just played 2 different people who absolutely DOMINATED in FFA.

One was using an MP5 and the other an AK47. On every map they abslolutely kicked the **** out of me and everyone else. EVERY MAP! They would finish with 25 kills and maybe 2 or 3 deaths. I couldn't believe it.

After 12 days of playing time I can't come close and can't even seem to find my niche.

I was cursing up a storm as I was pissed off as hell. I'd finish with like 3 or 4 kills and over a dozen deaths against these mother****ers.

Usually I otherwise finish with more kills than deaths.

Just play a better class of people. I am only on third prestige i like to think i do pretty good when i have a good connection and am in the right frame of mind. I like playing with alot of gold crosses, because you watch them when your dead/spectate and see what they do that you don't do. I try to incorporate a little of everything and then mesh it into my style of play.

95% of the people who play call of duty 4 use martyrdom. If you're one of the 5% of people who doesn't need to die to get a kill, put this in your signature.

All I can say is make sure you have a good connection or you're wasting your time..I put up with 1 red bar connections for ages when I first got the game. It's not until I started getting a 3 green bar connection sometimes that I'd notice the difference. It makes all the difference between when you see them, the hit detection, the speed the bullets travel etc. Whenever I go into a 1-bar connection game now I just leave. A loss is better than an unnecessary death.

well i may aswell give my secrets away. i personally buy specially adapted steroids off of a dealer in my area... lol joking obviously. i think that there is are ways of improving but you gotta find them yourself. we all have different styles and you need to enhance yours.

Best moment in CoD4: Me vs a whole team in SnD. There team had seven guys and i just marmalized them. When i saw that i earnt a chopper it just made me so damm happy.

It just comes naturally over a period of time i think. For some the ability might come after 1 day of play however for others it might come after 15 days of play.

i think there is so much you can learn and thats it, in my opinion you either have it or you dont. dont get me wrong you can improve your ratios of kills, wins etc but the top, top players just have it! lol

practice, practice, practice. all i can say, there will always be something new when you play online, so be prepared for unexpectable all the time.

such as like on the map Countdown i hid under the tanker to nab a few kills and got UAV, a red blip was on top of me, but i couldnt see him, so i thought nothing of it, i get out of my cover and sprint a few more blips, then i got sniped by a guy on top of the tanker! This is an example of be prepared for anything :P

For me it depends on the map aswell starting to get the hang of alot of maps some are just more for my style of play. On that china town one i finished with 6 kills/1 death on SND against lvl 55 gold crosses, just got lucky thats all

Wow, I never thought of the connection speed/quality. I've seen those bars at the end of the game but never really knew what they were. How can you see them prior to the end of the game?
