Hi guys, ive checked around before posting this....it seems noone has a real answer...

I'm running AMD x2 5200+
2GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3870, 512 mB gfx card
vista home sp1,

and yet CoD4 and 5 both stutter badly in sp game...

have tried all the usual stuff, dropped settings right down, stopped all un-needed backround progs, inc antivirus (avast 4.8) but to no avail

Could this be a problem in the game? does it need a patch? or is problem with gfx card support?

Is anyone successfully running this game at full spec?

There is a patch toi install, I'd recommend 1.6 (I recently ionstalled 1.7 and realised that only about 20 people use it, so I've reverted back to 1.6 which has MANY MANY more players... )

Other things to check:

Have you updated your drivers recently?

Done routine maintenance such as defragged and run antivirus/spyware/adware scans?

yeah, always like to keep a clean pc....regular malware/spyware scans, virus scans...I clean up and defrag regularly and my drivers are up to date

proper miffed because my specs are way passed the rcomended and yet i have this juddery play :sad:

ps. I dont really play multiplayer games so is that patch needed? There's no patch addressing the sp game issues is there?

I'm not sure, but could it be that the AMD Processor isn't strong enough to run it smoothly?

What resolution do you play on, does it stutter when you play on 640x480?

My CPU's only a couple of notches higher, the AMD Athlon 5600+ currently at the standard clock of 2.8Ghz (although I have been known to push it up to about 3.2Ghz on each core) and I have no problems running at 1280x800... Except at certain parts of the map creek where my FPS might drop to as low as 40... Although where you said "specs are way passed the rcomended," That's being a little optimistic. They're well past the minimum requirements, but you probably just about meet the recommended.

7even does have a point though, if you're trying to run at some ludicrous res like 1650x1440 or whatever you'll have a slideshow... You could always try running under recommended settings?

If you have a larger monitor, bear in mind that most of the HDTV's that people rave about (console fanboys mainly) only have a res of 1366x768 even on 37" screens... my 19" monitor has a higher res than that... 1440x900. So running at a lower resolution will help significantly, without losing much...

that's funny there's 20,000+ servers on 1.7 whenever i play. the largest number of players will be on the current version.

If i were you, i would patch up to the current version. imo that should be the first thing to try. Btw what is your framerate? In multiplayer its fine and only boggs down in single, correct? What dvd drive are you using?

You'd think so wouldn't you? I installed 1.7 the other day, and while yes, there was loads of servers (I saw nearly 2,000 not 20,000), nearly all of them were empty. There was only about 100 players max at any time of the day (usually more like 20-50). And all (bar maybe half a dozen) of the players that were there, were on servers that were showing as high ping (200+)

In 1.6 I only see about 700 servers, maybe 100 of them with a ping that I'll play on (below 100), but I never have trouble finding a game with a bunch of people... I see maybe 600 players when it's quiet... My favorites list (of about 20 servers) on 1.6 has more players than all the servers I could see on 1.7 put together. Would you like screenshots to prove it?

Most of the players I met were mostly useless, foulmouthed little kids who couldn't play...They'd be hiding in a room waiting for me to run down the street so they could snipe me, so I'd just sneak up behind them and knife them, and then they had the nerve to say I was camping...???

Already done that, stayed with it for two days before realising I prefer to be able to pick form a few hundred servers with hundreds/thousands of players online at any time of the day.

The fact that the weapon balance is horrible in 1.7 doesn't help. I was running round with a silenced MP5 getting headshots and quick kills just no scoping. In 1.6 I actually have to aim... 1.7 is too easy... I prefer a challenge... If I wanted to just spray and play I'd fire up Unreal Tournament 2004 instead

I won't be going back to 1.7, that's definite...

My framerate in MP can be anywhere from 40-380fps (usually holds steady around 130 - although I've recently set the limit at 165). In SP my framerate's 35-180fps. As for my framerate being lower in SP, what's my DVD drive got to do with it?

The ONLY reason my SP game has a lower framerate is because I have the settings almost maxed in SP, but only have medium settings for MP (the extra FPS is needed in MP...)

Anyway, can we get back on topic now? It's not me that has the problem.

I usually run in 1024 x 768, will try dropping it right down again and report back. Thanks for taking the time chaps

No worries, hold win_key (between ctrl+alt) and press R.

Type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) in the box and hit Enter.

In the window that opens up, click the "Save all information" button and save it to your desktop as a .txt file.

Open the file then copy and paste the lot.

You shouldn't be having problems at 1024x768 though... Try 800x600...
