CoD4 FPS tips

baught the game to today. start playing... 5fps, making even single player un-playable

That's rather strange based on your system stats. Do you have the most up to date video drivers?

Yea when i posted this i had the most up to date driver.... Whats your current set up

By the way I get most of my FPS from My CPU not my GPU.... my processor defiantly overpowers my graphics card, and thats why is probably so high...

Just post your current set up and I'll see if i can help at all....

With that being said Try eliminating alot of background proccesses....

By going into Run/msconfig/startup and you can uncheck everything w/o hurt your computer.... but you might want to keep a antivirus if you have one, and thats probably about it for your start up programs....and if you want to optimise your computer check out this tut my friends and i made a while ago....

What you SHOULD have done is make a backup copy of your config before you loaded this one. But since you didn't you can just rename/delete the cfg file and then start the game. It will create a fresh default config for you. you'll have to redo your custom classes and controls.

i did this and lost all my custom guns

i have tried youre fps cfg and followed the instructions in console in game , unfortunately they did not make any difference

heres my setup

AMD athlon 64x2 Dual
Core Processor 6400 +
3.25GHz 3.25 GB of RAM
Nvidia 1 GIG 8500GT

dont know why my fps are averaging at 60 and when ANYTHING happens they drop to 20-30 and the game jumps around (unplayable) please help

It didnt work because you need to restart cod after you enter in all the information

yes i typed /exec nix.cfg
then / vid_restart

unfortunately didnt help
i really dont know why i cant get better fps with this rig, also have tried restarting cod4

ok i bought a geforce 8800gtx to try to solve this issue and i get between 150-200 fps , however it is still extremely unstable, as in it gets really chuggy in action ??

I'm french, i know why everybody tell it didn't work...

You must have like me an error kinda = couldn't exec Nix.cfg when i type /exec Nix.cfg
(You can see that pressing SHIFT + ² )

So i've an other question, i've been placed Nix.cfg in my profile player but always this error back...

Error : Couldn't exec Nix.cfg

Why ???
