Stupid DirectX Error....plz help
I am currently having a problem joining any Call of Duty 4 server. I get a directx error that I can't read the contents of. This happens when I join a server or when I am in single player mode. Everything seems to work just fine until the loading screen appears. Right away, I hear the windows default 'ding' and the screen flickers because a directx error just appeared. I can't alt+tab from the game to read the error, nor can I hit the Windows key to minimize the game to read the contents of the error.
I was using two hard drives, we'll call them 'HDD A' (primary master) and 'HDD B' (primary slave). HDD A was responsible for running everything but COD4 and TS. I had no problems other that what one would expect from an aging computer. HDD B ran TS and COD4 and nothing else. All of the video card and sound drivers were located on HDD A, as well as directx. Yesterday, HDD A decided to die. When the computer boots, the POST screen is there, but then I get an error message before Windows even tries to load that says "Disk read error. Press ctrl+alt+delete to restart." Having installed Windows on HDD B prior to HDD A's failure, I felt confident that I shouldn't be out of the action all that long. So I moved the IDE cable and repositioned the jumper on the back of HDD B in order to make the BIOS recognize it as the primary master. Windows loads fine. All of the tests in the 'dxdiag' program are completed successfully. I reinstalled the video card drivers and directx as well. All tests still are successful; however, I still can't join a server or play single player because I am getting this directx error. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd sure like to hear them. I am getting no errors in any other application.
