Default Make A HQ CoD Movie

I know this is Old but it will help some im sure

slize's Movie Guide!

Making a CoD Movie Step 1: Quality Guide

PROGRAMS USED IN THIS GUIDE:

* Vegas Video5.0
* Xvid Codec
* Call of duty
* Seismovision

GRAPHIC SETTINGS:

Desktop Settings:

We are going to change the FSAA setting in windows to get a much smoother picture in game. I'm a ATI user and this is how I do it:

Right Click on the desktop / Properties / Settings / Advanced / 3D / OpenGL / Customize

I'm using these settings:

* 6x Full FSAA
* 8x Antistrophic Filtering

In Game Settings:

* 800*600 (The final product will be in 800*600)
* Maximum Graphic Quality
* No HUD (cg_drawStatus "0")

DEMO PART:

Open your demo with Seismovision. Watch the demo and find some nice frags that will fit in your movie. If you want to fast forward while looking at the demo you can use the timescale command, for example:

* Timescale 1 = Standard
* Timescale 5 = 5x speed
* Timescael 0.5 = 0.5x speed

Find the part you want to make a movie of and type this in the right order (I have binded all these settings to buttons on my keyboard):

Timescale 0.5 (Will slow down the speed, slowmotions will be in better quality when editing)

cl_avidemo 25 (The game will make 25 Screenshots / second [in this case 50 because of timescale 0.5])

cl_avidemo 0 (will stop the recording)
VEGAS SETTINGS:

File / New /

File / Open / select first TGA file / Open Still Image Sequence

Right click on the clip / properties / Change the Playbackrate to 2 to get normal speed (use 1 if you want the movie to be in slowmotion)

Now we are going to render the single clip to a uncompressed video (to get rid of the screenshots and make the work easier)

File / Render As /

Select "Custom..." to change the settings

This is my set up:
http://www.callofduty.se/slize/images/renderas2.gif

http://www.callofduty.se/slize/images/renderas3.gif

Press OK and render it

Now you can remove your screenshots and use the Uncompressed Video instead. Do this with every clip you want to use. Then you can import them in Vegas for editing later on.

Let's render the the clip and see how it will look when the product is finnished:

Open your uncompressed avi in vegas and render it with Xvid this time.

http://www.callofduty.se/slize/images/renderxvid1.gif

We are going to render the projects with 2pass, why 2pass? Well, it will make the quality of the movie more even, the bad parts will look as good as the good parts by changing to the bitrate needed att that exact position.

We need to set up the settings for the codec, press "Configure..."

The bitrate in this guide is at 3700, you can use whatever you want

First render the clip like "Twopass - 1st Pass"

http://www.callofduty.se/slize/images/render1pass1.gif

When it's rendered you will have to render it again, but this time as "Twopass - 2nd pass"

Notice that you must replace the first file to make this work.

http://www.callofduty.se/slize/images/render2pass1.gif

Look at the new avi compressed with xvid; this is how the final product will look like. If you don't like the result, try to change the bitrate in the xvid codec, higher rate = better quality and bigger file, lower rate = worse quality and smaller file.

Here's a high quality machinima to inspire.
It's extremely boring, but artistically beautiful (filter lol) and very well put together.

Too true. i used WMM for one of my COD4 videos back in the day before i got Adobe Premiere Pro.

The thing was just under 100MB so i could throw it on Youtube. and looked like crap

I just finished a new video with Adobe P. Pro, its 13mb's and it looks like actual gameplay unlike the WMM file -.-

Microsoft really needs to step it up with the free software xD
