Freeze malfunction in CoD 4

Sometimes Cod 4 will freeze and then I need to reboot my pc. I can sometimes play without it freezing for hours, but sometimes it will freeze like twice in 5 minutes. Last time I got a directx error. So I reinstalled Directx. Dont get the error anymore now, but still get the freezes.

Could anyone help me with this?

PC specs:
Windows XP Home Edition
Amd Athlon 64 X2 2.2 ghz dual core
Nvidia Gefore 9600 GT with the newest drivers
2 Gb RAM
