OCZ do make good PSU's, and as you say the PSU's been checked, so lets forget that...

When you removed the soundcard did you remember to uninstall the drivers for it?

I don't think it's COD4 that's the problem, I believe it is highlighting a minor issue with your hardware/software though... Not sure which yet, but we'll find it

Yes all the drivers for the sound card were removed. But now we put the sound card back in, because my husband & I were having problems hearing on AA. So, now we are using the old sound card again until we can order the new one in a couple weeks. I have not tried to play COD4 since he put the sound card back in. I'm gonna try it tomorrow and I'll let ya know if I'm still having that problem.

Only problem I can see there is the soundblaster card... I have nothing but problems with the damn things...

Are you using a retail dvd version, or downloaded steam/d2d version?

All I can suggest at the moment is uninstall the SB card, delete every reference of it from the registry, reboot. Reinstall the realtek drivers and use onboard sound.

Remove any USB devices (apart form keyboard and mouse), disable antivirus (what antivirus are you using ATM?), antispy, popupblockers and any other software that you don't need running while playing the game. It might be wort just going into msconfig and stopping everything from starting with windows that you don't need to.

When/if this doesn't work, uninstall COD4, wipe all traces of that from the registry, reinstall... update to patch 1.2, see if it works, update to 1.4, see if it works, update to 1.6, see if it works.

Still not working? Uninstall all your drivers and reinstall the latest versions... Pain in the ass I know, but something's causing the prob...

Well, we have to have the sound card in so that we are able to hear better on AA. Without it, we just can't hear things right on that game. I am getting a better sound card, hopefully before the end of this month. This is the sound card I'm getting, Creative 70SB046A00000 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional Series.

The only thing plugged into a USB port is my printer. Nothing else is plugged into a USB port. I always disable the antivirus before playing COD4. We are currently using Avast! for our antivirus. I tried that msconfig, where ya turn off everything that doesn't need to be running. And after doing it, it wouldn't even let COD4 load. It gave me an error saying "iwemp3.exe has stopped working". So I had to change it all back.

I also tried the uninstall and reinstall of COD4. And it worked fine until the server switched to one of the new maps. I can play for hours on the old maps, but as soon as it switches to one of the new maps. Then my PC starts crashing. That's why I previously said that I think it is the game and not my pc. Because if it was my pc, then it should crash all the time when I'm playing COD4 and not just on certain maps.

Oh and we already did the uninstall of all drivers for everything and update to the newest drivers available for everything. And that didn't help.

I'll get back to ya on this question. My husband isn't home and I'm not sure what the answer to this is.

Sorry, I should have been more specific, in msconfig disable everything under the STARTUP tab, except sound/graphics/mouse/keyboard drivers. If you're not sure what any of the entries are post them here and I'll tell you which ones to uncheck... Probably will not make a difference, but it's worth a shot... Besides, most of the things under the startup tab are unneccesary and just slow things down... Things like nero, quicktime, java, and about a gazillion others do not need to start with windows. Unfortunately they may have multiple entries under different names, and some of them may even appear under the SERVICES tab...

If it's only doing it on certain maps, it sounds like a few files are corrupted... Where did you download the updates from? Try a different source? Unfortunately it means going through all the BS again with no guarantee of success...

You don't want to disable EVERYTHING under startup, for example you need NvCpl running (nvidia graphics driver), and possibly a few others, for instance if you have a gaming mouse that uses third party drivers, or a keyboard with media keys etc... Use google to identify each process before you disable it.

You could try a different mirror on file front, or try gamershell.com, fileplanet, xfire, and numerous others... I don't know if it will help though...

Have you defragged and run scandisk? Maybe you have a bad sector or two on your hdd... maybe

I may give that a try and see if by chance there was something messed up in the patch downloads.

I just wish that I could get this problem fixed and not have to worry about it anymore.
