Default CoD 4 - Freeze up ( HARD REBOOT REQUIRED)

Hello Dear Forumers.

I have lately experienced some very interesting lock-up on my CoD 4 Multiplayer part.

I can play either 25minutes and up to 3 hours in a row, in that time-space my computer locks-up completely, showing the last picture viewed & last sound played. This can be either in-game or on ventrilo sound.

I am using an Alienware PC that cost me 2.000 £ , it's a high-end pc which can pull off Crysis on it's maximum, Far Cry 1 & 2 on maximum and several other hardcore games on a very very decent level. And as far as I see it, I could run three applicatons of CoD 4 on the same time on maximum settings without any problems, so I cannot see what causes this problem.

As told, my PC will lock-up, without anything to do except for a hard reboot of the pc. It's very annoying as I need to restart & rejoin every game I was in + I need to explain to the player in the middle of the Clan War that my 2k £ computer ****ed up during COD 4

Any help regarding this matter? Could it be overheating? Any program I can run to check the heat in my PC.

Thanks alot,

Gozuu2TM

Get it checked out at your local computer shop.
They should tell you.
Or just do the Hard Reboot.

My warranty will dissapear if anyone but Alienware touches it.

Hard reboot is not very good for a computer, and It is terribly annoying to restart 3-4 times every day in the middle of Clan Wars or something important <.<

Alienware ewwww would have been cheaper and better to build your own.
Post your specs and check what drivers your running (see if they up to date) i expect funky will be able to help. I've only ever had to hard reboot a few times and usually its the display drivers crashing, i get lock ups that i can ctrl+alt+del out of when switching between different match mods .

I have heard that your GPU can get very overheated, and in order to protect hardware, the PC automaticly shuts down ?

Yay... Dellware... Sorry, just messing

Post your dxdiag please (follow link in my sig for instructions), then we can check out your drivers as well as your hardware. Could be something as simple as out of date drivers...

To check your GPU temp download and install EVGA Precision 1.7.1 download from Guru3D.com You can also use this to push your GPU fan speed up if it is GPU temps causing your problem

As for checking other temps, you can use the everest ultimate free trial Lavalys - Comprehensive IT Security and Management

Allright. I will be back from work in three hours, I will then get the DXdiag & check my GPU&Video card temperature.

Also - I do not believe it can be out of date drivers. I am using the ones that Alienware installed on my pc before shipping it, and they have worked in CoD4so far, it's just lately that it has begun happening.

Around 17:00, i will have it posted here, thanks for your help

It's not a problem with your pc only.
The problem could be from the patches, GPU drivers or Punkbuster updates...

It has been happening to me for quite a while.

I read on some places that maybe newer drivers could be messing up the game and older drivers should be used...haven't tried it yet.
Or punkbuster just mucks up the game and i'm not sure what could be done...(non-punkbuster server?)

stuff i tried was to
-lower graphic settings (made it slower and faster to lock up)
-run in windowed mode, thinking i would have a way to recover if it locked up...but same as above
-installed on the second hard drive

strangely enough it happens only when i get killed...so the worse i play the higher the chances of locking up

I use old drivers - As those drivers worked with CoD 4 before - Nothing new has changed to CoD 4 that should be upgraded with drivers - I have manually udpated Punkbuster , only reason I can see for this is that my GPU is overheating.

I get no errors, what so ever...It locks-up & i have to reboot it to get back to windows.
