Bettering ourselves (no offense meant)

This forum is hardly used, and the people who do use it aren't very good "artists." I'm not trying to be mean, but a lot of the signatures and other such things that come from these posts are very, very, very sub par... I'm going to school for graphic design and whenever I get the chance I'll upload some tutorials of some pretty basic signatures. I hope that with everyone's cooperation and help we can make this forum a great place for gfx people to come!

I've competed in sig battles, made many larger pieces, and have quite a few forum signatures under my belt. I've been called a "guru" before and I know A LOT about photoshop. If you have any questions at all PLEASE pm me or post here... this is gonna be a FAQ topic!

actually, tbh, this sig got rated semi-pro BECAUSE it has great depth, effects, and flow. I made this very quickly using all defaults. It got rated semi-pro because it was too busy. Otherwise it would have been pro... Another thing, I used a levels layer... I use Lots of layers in my sigs...

See, this is why I said this will turn into a flaming war on who has better sigs, people dont take criticism lightly mate.

There wasn't a single threatening thing in my post... not one... I don't know why you're saying this will be a flame war... I'm merely trying to suggest some ideas to make this part of this board much more mainstream... GFX is a big thing on the internet... there's MILLIONS of sites devoted to it... lets make this board more widely used... a SOTW contest would be a good way to start!

I never said anything from you was threatning, I'm just saying some people don't take lightly to criticism so it might be a bit iffy. But I agree, SOTW would be interesting, I would also be willing to run it.

Can you edit your signature to make it smaller because it lags the page loading times on the server and clutters things. Maybe have 2 images?

Vampy, if you're still active here I'd just like to say:

Your sigs are no better than I've seen on here, all you've done is added a C4D and a render with lighting effects, I've yet to see any tutorials or advanced work from you.

It's pretty pathetic to sit and say that other folks work is poor or not up to your standards, but others may feel it's good enough!

Let's all be honest, a chimp could pull off the sigs you've made, in your current signature.

I think that sucks. I did mine in a free paint program paint.net and its more interesting than that. No school experience and i couldve easily added some gradient like you did to that white/black scale.

1. If you're as "good" as you say, you shouldn't be making 10 minute sigs.
2. That definitely isn't semi-pro, nor is it inter. The text is absolutely dreadful, the overall effects are decent, and not much to them, needs more compo, and if you're gonna make a b/w tag, then you better make it look good in b/w; yours looks like maybe you were covering up poor coloring or something, but I could be wrong.
3. I just looked at your current sig, and the three you got in there...wow. There is clearly no way you are inter. I know ranking, and I know how to do it, and the ways people get certain rankings. You're just putting them in and that's that. No modifications or anything it seems

Ha. I never even heard of C4d until I just read this and decided to look it up. Never used em. All my sigs have been designed and created from scratch. They may not be the best, but Ive been trying to make everybodies different. And a lot of people are demanding on....they want there work NOW. I may hav to giv sum c4ds a shot. Never even knew wut they were. LOL.
